Hi, I’m Katie!
Creativity runs through my blood! As a child, I watched my grandmother knit, crochet, and weave, while my mother designed most of our clothes and created breathtaking tapestries. Meanwhile, my sister pursued a degree in Fine Arts.
Their inspiration sparked my interest from a young age and led me into the fashion and textile industry after studying textiles with a focus on dress design and production. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of Europe’s most prestigious brands, including several years at Next and with industry suppliers.
I’ve designed garments, tested textiles for quality, and collaborated with brands to plan upcoming trends.
Away from the hustle and bustle, I started sewing my own clothes. Over the past few years, I’ve learned new techniques and made a few mistakes along the way! However, my wardrobe is now filled with clothing pieces that I absolutely love. They are unique pieces that fit perfectly and receive many admiring comments from friends.
My passion lies in taking a piece of fabric, adding my own creative touch, and witnessing the entire process from start to finish. And I want to inspire others to do the same. Homemade clothing doesn’t have to look homemade! With a few techniques and creative skills, you can create classic, trendy, and beautiful clothing that truly suits you. I hope I can inspire and encourage you to do the same.
Why I love sewing
Sewing has always been a beloved passion of mine, one that I truly treasure. The art of creating my own clothes allows me to express my creativity and design garments that truly reflect my personal style. Not only does it provide me with a sense of satisfaction, but it also allows me to achieve a perfect fit tailored to my body, enhancing my confidence and comfort. Sewing grants me complete control over the quality of materials and craftsmanship, ensuring that my creations are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable. Moreover, it aligns with my values of sustainability by reducing my dependency on fast fashion and enabling me to choose eco-friendly fabrics. The continuous learning curve in sewing keeps me engaged and motivated, as each project offers an opportunity for growth and improvement. The feeling of fulfilment that washes over me upon completing a sewing project is truly unparalleled. It fills me with pride and self-respect to transform raw materials into wearable pieces. My handmade wardrobe is a reflection of my identity and values, creating a strong connection between what I wear and who I am. Ultimately, sewing also serves as a peaceful escape from the demands of everyday life, providing a meditative practice that rejuvenates my mind. In summary, sewing my own clothes is not just a hobby but a way of life that encompasses creativity, self-expression, sustainability, personal growth, and a profound sense of fulfilment. It enriches my life in countless ways, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
The Idea
The idea for Sewmebox Sets originated from sewing classes. Many of my students need assistance in knowing which fabric matches which pattern. What is a woven or knitted fabric? It is also becoming increasingly difficult to physically see if a thread matches the fabric and search for the right interfacing on a website due to the rise of online shopping and the limited number of actual fabric stores. My boxes aim to alleviate all this stress and allow you to simply choose a box based on your size and colour / fabric wish.
